I was looking at the auction and came across this Trans Am. Its a 1980 with a 4.6l Turbo it seems to be all stock but not sure. What do you guys know about this car and what do you think its worth? I read some articles on it and it seems to be a special edition car but im not sure. Any info would help thanks.

The later 2nd gen Camaro/Firebird are now just beginning to appeal to car collectors. I would say the SE Turbo is the cream of the crop for 1980. Looking at your pic's. The carpet has stains which are usually caused by rust on the floor pan. Being a t-top look closely at floor pan, upper and lower a-pilars, rear wheel wells (lower front and back) filler panel (rear window), trunk area. Sheet metal is not too expensive. Interior parts will be expensive. Exterior looks good. Does it run?

Here's a similar one on eBay.
Pontiac : Trans Am:eBay Motors (item 390136348237 end time Jan-03-10 18:41:56 PST)

Here's production numbers

Hope this info can help.

If you ever go to monty, then you must have seen the sparkly gold n blue turbo trans am by now, looks exactly like it but in excellent condition.
I know they make them in a 301 (4.9L) turbo from the factory, but I've never heard of a 4.6L turbo.

Yeah it is a 4.9L auction error I guess. It sold today for a little under 1k, I don't think they will sell because it has an approval price. The auctions states that it is a run and drive car with only the visible problems. I was real interested in the car because I had never seen an 80's model trans with a turbo.

if im not mistaken that was the quickest trans am to that date. beating all the big blocks and special eddition's.they were light and had lots of power. not sure if it would be worth the money to restor it though.

I was told from my father that the car had been sold last week and it didn't sell. He said that it went for around the same price last time.

The tail lights say Bandit when you step on the brakes.

Some info on motor options:

Black S.E. Trans Am Three engines were offered for the 1980 Trans Am. All three were Pontiac 4.9Ls except for a Chevy 5.0L which was only installed in California built cars. The first engine was coded W and was rated at 140hp. The next step up was the E/C code Y 4.9L rated at 155hp. The last and most popular option was the Turbo version of the 4.9L coded T which was rated at a respectable 210hp. The Turbo version came with a special hood with an offset bulge designed to accommodate the Turbo unit under the hood. A "Turbo 4.9" decal was affixed to the hood on the bulge.

Hmmm! Respectable 210hp. Cars have changed. Thank God!

I have my dealers license so I go all the time. The one in Albs is every Thurs at 12 noon and it is all done through the interwebs. Let me know if you ever want something specific trucks, cars, bikes, boats, motor homes they have it all.

Thanks! That's good to know. I'm always looking for GM Muscle cars up to 1972.

You're thinking of the 1989 Turbo Trans Am that featured the EFI & intercooled 3.8L Turbo V6 also found in the later Grand Nationals.

These early ones were terrible. Carb-turbo, nasty days of emissions with early cats that seriously robbed power.. these 4.9L TTA's made barely over 200hp stock :(

Oh, saw someone beat me to it, oh well. More info never hurt anyone!
