Shelby American celebrates the GT350's anniversary with a modern Mustang

Shelby American is marking the 45th anniversary of the legendary Shelby GT350 Mustang with a new version, designed for Ford's new 5.0-liter V8 in the 2011 Mustang.

For those willing to plunk down $33,995--plus the cost of a new Mustang--the team at Shelby American in Las Vegas will crank out a modernized GT350. On the outside, that calls for white paint with the blue racing stripes down the center of the hood, roof and deck.

Exterior changes include new front and rear fascia, and the hood and rocker panels get functional air scoops.

Under the hood, the 5.0-liter V8 gets a Ford Racing supercharger, which will push output to about 500 hp, and blue-colored Shelby valve covers. The engine is bolted to a six-speed manual transmission.

The Ford Racing parts catalog also provides springs, struts, sway bars and caster/camber plates to upgrade the suspension. Shelby American also fits the car with Baer brakes for greater stopping power, and the Goodyear tires roll on 19-inch Cragar wheels.

There's a bevy of Shelby American 45th-anniversary badges inside and out. And the driver-side A-pillar gets gauges for fuel pressure, oil pressure and boost.

Ford begins building the 2011 Mustang this spring. Shelby American customers can have their car drop-shipped from the factory to the Las Vegas facility for upfitting.

I like it..................just needs to put some more rubber to the ground, 500 hp and you would melt those tires off in ten minutes!

Ehh the front kills it. For the almost $34k just to have a factory mustang redone into this, I'd expect a little more.

Its ok. I think the ass end of the 2010 Mustang looks funny. I like the 05-09 rear end, but the 2010 front end.

The body kit on this Shelby looks funny. For the price i would expect a LOT more.

So you can buy a 2011 GT with same motor and tranny or you can spent a additional 34k for a supercharger and bodykit and make 100 more hp? SWEEEET totally worth it...

Instead of buying that ugly thing I'd rather buy a GT and put 34k into it where I see fit. (if i wanted to spend that kind of cash of course)

Someone had to bring this up...

Front's ugly, needs meat, probably handles like shit, but hell, at least it has 500hp?
Did SLOBRA tell you his dad used to own a 1965 Shelby GT-350 Mustang, but he sold it in 1974 for $3,700? Serial #342. Out of 500-odd ever built.

Yep, that was THE one that got away. Sigh.

Detroit Automotive locker diff, T-10 aluminum-case 4-speed, battery in the trunk, side exhausts, fiberglass hood, Holley 780 CFM center-pivot...and that lovely 1.20 third gear. SLOBRA's dad OWNED SoCal hwy 74 from Valle Vista to Idyllwild during those years. The '65 was a race car for the street.

Not a drag car, but surely you guys can appreciate it. That 289 is still my favorite engine of all time.

Shoot.
