And I do it anyway.

This is my 97 Mustang GT. I bought it almost a year and a half ago with 209k miles on it. I had chosen drifting earlier as I have no interest in drag racing, autocross is too linear, and Montgomery ain't my scene. I wanted to build a car that was a combination of roadcourse and drift from the getgo, with an emphasis on getting it sideways.

I chose a Mustang rather than a 240 or RX7 as I already had some degree of familiarity and also didn't want to look like every other car on the starting line. The GT came up on Craigslist in Denver and literally using all the money I had I bought it for 2000 dollars and had it shipped down.

In short order, I set about modifying it. My current mod-list is:

4 point roll bar
Sparco Pro 2000 seats w/stupidly expensive accompanying brackets
Takata harnesses
Steeda short throw shifter
Walbro two-fiddy-fave
Eibach Pro-Street Coilovers
Maximum Motorsports caster/camber plates
Cobra 2 piston brakes w/ stainless steel lines and Brembo blank rotors
160 degree thermostat
NGK spark plugs
MSD coilpacks
10.2mm spark plug wires
Maximum Motorsports panhard bar
AEM CAI
Maximum Motorsports A arms
Maximum Motorsports solid motor mounts
AEM temperature gauge
Wild Rides torque box reinforcements
Maximum Motorsports SFC's

There was a period where I ran the car into a curb and folded the front in.

1100 dollars worth of frame straightening got it working again.

Next up is my rear end project. I got a rear end out of an 04 Mach 1 that I'm planning to build up to a pretty decent spec. I'll be going with an Auburn electronic 8.8 locker so I can have the option of a locked diff when I want it. I'll also be going 9 inch ends, 31 spline axles, and all the associated crap that goes with it.

Pictures in happy days.

WTF is up with all of the same pic
Edited. I thought photobucket had an automatic photo-copier thing.
I would put some ET streets on it and spray it to death... but hey. To each is thier own.
I'd say from a performance standpoint, look on corral or modfords for a set of PI heads/cams/intake manifold. It gives those old non-pi motors a nice bump in power FWIW.

Okay...sure, lets turn this into a for sale thread. I have two P.I. motors in my shed. The only things I'm looking for are x or h-pipes, a 4.6 block, or rear end things.
i like drifting.

cool car, you should bring it by one of the meets sometime.

What condition are the motors? I know that powershifter on here was also looking for motor to put into his car since his motor just took a shit...

And not trying to turn this into a for sale thread, but I do like the build that you are doing and doing something a little different with a mustang. Where did you take the pictures of the drifting? I might be selling my o/r x-pipe soon. Ill let ya know first if I do end up selling it
The one and only time I rode in a drift car I wanted one when I got out. That's some fun shit. Problem is neither my checkbook nor my garage space agree.

I've probably spent 8000 on it. It's given me a direction and really I think it's worth what has gone into it.

One 4.6 has a nice hole in the block but is complete otherwise, the other 4.6 seems to be okay but I've never been bothered to get the pan off to take a look. Let me know about the pipe, I'll see if I feel like blowing money on it and getting some cats welded on.

I got 2.73 gears you make a price I doubt you will want that low of gear though.

I found out the intake is leaking coolant into cylinder 4 causing it to misfire. I found this out on a day where I had rented out the track.

I really need to sort out a rebuilt motor now. I realize this doesn't necessarily mean I need to rebuild everything, but honestly how long can I drag this motor out?
It's a Ford it will run forever regardless. LOL J/K

Really just depends, but a rebuild couldn't be too bad. If you ever need help, just give me a holler.

I have an idea that will make some good power. Pull the NPI motor, get the bottom end freshened up, throw on PI heads and do a clutch. We will discuss this weekend. Sidenote, you could just replace the intake with one of the PI ones you have, ya know. :drunk:

Lets recount my weekend.

I drove 250 miles to Deming for the ASR track day using a borrowed truck and a borrowed trailer.

And I get there and find my P.I. intake manifold, which I paid someone to replace as the original one was cracked, was leaking in three different spots to the tune of about 3 or 4 drips a second underneath the car. I did 3 laps of the track, loaded my car back on to the trailer, and went to Tucson and ended up at a gay party with lots of frat boy ****-sticks which thoroughly hammered the nail in the coffin in to my weekend. I'm pissed at such a wide variety of things right now.

I really have no taste for this car anymore. I'm going to throw some money at the 01 now and make it look nice, and I really don't care about this car. It can go **** itsself. I don't really care about drifting right now with everything go on in my life, and I hate working on cars, so whatever. It's only an intake as of now but the car is a piece of shit that could do with a new everything.
