Powerstroke won't start.

My company truck is a late 99 powerstroke that has about 55,000 miles. I just got back from being on the road for about 5,000 miles in three weeks and have had the truck parked in our office shop. It has been moved around but has been driven less than 60 miles in the past three weeks and I tried to move it yesterday and it would not start. It has a full take of diesel, the oil is still in the operating range, and it will crank just fine, but it will never even act like it is trying to start. I have turned the key on and let the "wait to start" light go out a few times and then tried again and still nothing. When you are cranking it the gauges go nuts and there is a slight clicking noise coming from behind the dash. Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Have you drained your water separator lately? Try that and see if it helps. Let me know....
I know you say it cranks just fine, but this sounds like a battery issue to me. I would give the batteries a good charge or just check them for volts. Diesels need a good strong charge to start up more than your average gas engine.

With your mention of the clicks behind the dash I would stand behind this analysis. Powerstrokes hate starting without fully charged batteries. It will crank but never start. Give it a really good jump, new batteries, or a good charge and it should fire right up. Seen this happen numerous times, I have sold diesel trucks for over a year now.
+1! The older power strokes are notorious for that, crank just fine but they need a ton of voltage on the preheat and delivery end to start. A few days parked and they need a good peak charge to start on both batteries.

Id have to agree, give it a full charge!
Me and my friends f150 (not a diesel but still a ford!) make that clicking behind the dash and the guages go weird if it is not started on a full charge. That would be my first guess is the battery.

i miss my old powerstroke diesel. Had this(water) happen to me couple times in 4 years, and that was the culprit. the 2006 powerstrokes had a display on odometer that would indicate water in line.

water cleared and started up.
Hooked some jumper cables up to it and it started right up. Thanks, and I owe you a drink sometime when I'm around ABQ.

Glad it was just low voltage.
