What's up guys!

I just picked up a new truck, it's a 1989 Toyota 4runner sr5 4x4 v6 5speed :headbang:

I'm pretty stoked, I don't really have much experience with 4x4's, although I have 3 awd cars, lol! I plan on using it for light trails, hunting/fishing, car camping, and snowboarding.

I picked it up for 1900.00, 206k on the clock. It's in great shape for a 20 year old truck, no rust, no real body damage, crusty interior, but that's about it. All stock, purrs like a kitten.

I wanted to get some tire advice from more experienced offroad guys. So based on my projected usage, what would be a good, but economical tire choice? I'm running 31 x 10.5 x 15's, and they've got about 30% left, so new tires are coming up quick!

Two small oil leaks, one at the PS VC gasket, and one at the xfer case gasket. Other than that, a squeaking/scraping noise from the front DS wheel, that I think is a brake wear indicator. The axle at that wheel has already been replaced (probably trying to repair the squeak, but it is definately not axle noise). My buddy who is really good with old toyota 4x4's thought is might be the power steering, but it doesn't happen at a stand still, only while moving, so I don't think that's it. I'll have the wheel off this weekend to see if I can pinpoint it, but it's definately rotational. Basically, if I turn right at about 10+ mph, I get this squealing/scraping sound that remains for a few seconds after I straighten out, then goes away. My guess is the pads are worn, and when I turn the floating caliper moves so that the pad wear indicator does it's job, then when I straighten out and the caliper centers, the noise goes away... Any thoughts?

I'll take pics later, the previous owner used it as a trail truck for hunting, and was a paint/body guy for 20 years, it's got a pretty good camo job, which I'll leave alone for a while, but may eventually paint it flat black.

Despite the small issues, I'm very happy with the purchase, and can't wait to get this bitch in some mud/snow/rocks!!!

A good tire is BFG MT's, I have had them on 4 Jeeps and loved them. They are good on everything and wear nicely.
I agree with above... Do NOT go with the Nitto Mud Grapplers...

I hate the nitto's, my 02 and 06 have them, can't seem to get any mileage out of them.
Ive had mine for about a month, they were great in snow and in mud but are loud as all can be on the road and seem to wear fast...
