Well my dad called me today and said that his truck had just chunked a head gasket. Its a 2003 ford f 150 4x4

What I was wondering if anybody had ever changed one? or know how many hours a shop would charge to fix it. I have no problem helping him as he is not very handy when it comes to wrenching but I would like to know what I am getting into.

thanks for any help

Its not a horribly bad job, but it also isnt a walk in the park for a first timer. I would go to alldatadiy.com and pay the $19 for a year subscription and it will give you step by step instructions on doing it. Unless you have the Chain holding tool to keep the timing chain from sucking into the front cover, then you will need to pretty much tear the whole front of the motor off and retime everything when done.
