I'm building my small block on paper, and i have a cam i really like. It has a 107 LSA though. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea though as it is going in a vega, not in a huge car like my old buick. I always believed the smaller the LSA the torquier your power Curve on the bottom end. (Though i've never had a car that did wheelies) :squid: Is that correct thinking on my part? Also would that hurt me if i thru the bottle on it. :headbang: I want to find out, as i will begin buying the smaller items first, and ready to get rollin on this project.

Lobe Seperation is only part of the cam equation, the tighter you go, the narrower the RPM band where peak torque occures depending on your duration, a tight LSA of around 104 to 106 generally makes for a 'peaky' engine, the more you seperate the lobe angles, the broader the torque curve, I've built several V8 Vegas, they're pretty light and do better with low torque/high horespower engines on the street, I always used low lift, long duration cams in mine to snub off some bottom end torque because on small tires they don't hook that well on the street anyway, having a Lobe Seperation Angle of 107 degrees will work just fine with the N20 and your car.

Hey John... It's Scott, with the Black Buick. I was hoping you would chime in on this as i know you did the V8 vega thing. I'm finally getting back into the car thing. I was gonna run up to your house the other night with nick and John, but couldn't get away. I don't know where your new place is...and i don't want to just show up with other buddies unannounced, not that i really think it would have been a problem.

Thanks Josef.... I've been meaning to get ahold of Alex, to go see some mexican racing, but i think i'm gonna go to the wings and things shindig thursday. Have been looking forward to meeting you for a long time, do you go to these, or are you in Vegas?

Tub the car and build as much low end torque as you want.

I gave Nick a call shortly after reading your other post. So, was this a buddy deal? Are matching tattoos next?

Torque is for trucks, 4000lb cars and pussies who can't build horsepower:secret: good to hear from you again Scott, you should've came with Cheezwhiz, you don't need an invite, but you do need to remember this, never ever take advice from a MOPAR guy about going fast:lol:

Ouch! I guess with a small tire car with relatively small CID you probably have to worry about this type of thing. I've never had either. :secret:

What happened to the Buick? That would have been an easy car to back half.

begin with the end in mind.. best words I can give you.. if your planning on spraying the car I'd like to see a lobe sep in the 110-112 area.. John is on the money with the tighter the lsa statement.. if your looking for the happy medium go with a 110lsa and dur. in the mid [email protected] you want to maximize the spray look at the 270-280 range @ .50 what size motor are you putting together? what heads? etc.... maybe we can all help you more with that info..

this explains cams
A cam chart or breakdowns like this are great to get in the ball park. However, every engine is different and depending on how much patience you have, you may go through a couple cams until you find one that's perfect. I've put 3 different cams in an engine once and ended up using the second one I had installed. I made about 20 more rwhp over the other two and the grind wasn't recomended at all by the manufacturer.
