thought this was pretty crazy, but ferrari is starting to use carbon fiber (EDIT: looks like the article mistook carbon-ceramic for carbon fiber) rotors to cut down on weight. apparently they're more effective but very expensive and wear out faster... picture is from SEMA

heres the article ferrari 599xx with carbon fiber brake rotors and a picture from it, dunno why they look different. pretty freakin cool tho.

did a little more research, and in the second picture, see how it says: WHEEL DONUT in white letters. thats just a cover, presumably made of carbon fiber, and these "F1 inspired screens have been introduced (called "wheel donuts") and partially cover the brake disc and the rims with the dual function of increasing both aerodynamics and cooling". so basically don't worry about the second picture.

heres what they use on the f1 cars...

heres some pics of the new 599xx, so sick...

i was checking around, and stoptech is selling them. a four wheel big brake kit would go for around 15k, with most of the money going towards the cc rotors. a little pricey...

Carbon ceramic rotors are by far not new in F1, nor in open wheel racing..they are how ever fairly new to "street" cars...they have been putting ceramic carbon rotors on porsches and ferraris for quite a few years...still some sick ass brakes though!

Man, I would love to see that car someday! Does he ever plan on taking it out to the strip?
