Ok, so I have an ATS built 4L60E. i was racing another camaro and I'm pretty sure that now my transmission is done for. In the middle of our third race my car didn't shift into 3rd and i went past the rev limiter. After that the car doesnt shift into 3rd at all and it wont go any faster than 2100rpm in 2nd gear, once you get to 2200 it just revs and doesnt go any faster. I tried resetting the PCM by taking out the fuses and that didnt work. My fluid level was fine when i checked it, but it smelled pretty burnt.

So does anyone else have any ideas what it might be? I really would rather not spend a couple grand on a new tranny if i dont have to.

Thanks

Burnt up the 2nd and 3rd gear bands most likely. I did the same on my old 700R4. You could try and adjust your T/V cable just make sure it's not that. But if it has fluid, and there is pressure running through it, your probably SOL.

If you want to bolt in a tranny and never think or worry about it again, I say go with a th400 but that is a 3 speed and IDK what your plans for the car are.

Yeah, i thought about a th400 too but the car is going to have to be my daily driver after i buy the tranny because i have to sell my other car to afford it.. Have any of you used a TCI streetfighter? They are on Summit and say they are good up to 450 hp, but anyone had one that would recommend it?

heres a link: TCI 371016 - TCI StreetFighter Transmissions - Overview - SummitRacing.com

i already have my eye on a torque converter and a better tranny cooler also

I really think you shoul look into a 4L80E. I don't know how or if the control part of them works with an LS1 PCM, but I believe Rossler has their own control module. And it basically a TH400, with over drive. The gearing is the same as a TH400. 2.48,1.48,1.00. but it has a .75 overdrive also. It'll turn a few more RPM (about 100-150) on the highway because you have a .70 overdrive now. But they are tough as hell. A lot of turbo guys use them.

dang so that would probably be a better choice.. would it bolt right up in place of my 4l60e? or will i have to get a different transfer case or anything?
Transfer Case? Not unless your car is 4wd  It may require a different crossmember. And like I said I don't know about the transmission control with a LS1 Computer, might want to find someone with experience with that. But the 4L80s are tough.

Note that your car is going to feel different with the 4L80 because of its gearing and it will go longer in gears. You might even consider calling rossler and asking about their 4L60Es. Might not be as much work involved. I think any transmission you'll buy from them will hold power. But call a pro and ask them.

With the 4l80e you have to make a cross member and bang the shit out of the tunnel for it to fit. Id recommend a FLT 4l60 or even a performabuilt.

Hey look another bandwagoner! FLT this FLT that. Performabuilt build just as good of a tranny and have seen thousands of sub 10 sec passes! On their level 2 not there level 3, someone on ls1tech with a transbrake has over 250 passes on a 200shot.
