Boosted stock bottom ended LS1?

Just wondering if anyone knows how much boost a stock LS1 out of a 2000 WS6 would be able to handle. This will be a daily driven, pump gas tuned set-up. Either sts style or front mount flipped truck header mounted turbo. Wanting to run like 6lbs for normal driving and maybe 10-12 for racing? Will it be able to handle that with a safe tune? If so how long will it last? The motor only has 12,000 miles on it from the factory, and I plan to just do H/C/I on it. +rep for good info. Thanks.

TUNE, TUNE, TUNE!

Did I mention an excellent tune can go a long way? :lol: It sounds like ~6psi is a pretty safe range if you want it to last long, but I tend to hang out on the safe side 'cause I ain't rich. I know you said just H/C/I but have you thought about meth injection if you're planning 10psi+? Looks like kits start around $500 (on http://www.alkycontrol.com/). Cheap insurance, plus you can impress the girls by telling them your car is on meth!

I'd say 6-7lbs and it'll be good.

I'd imagine that the size of the turbo would have an impact on how many lbs you can run as well.

Why would that make a difference? lbs/sq. in of air is how it's measured right? or something like that. Wouldnt it all be the same no matter what source of compressor?

I really don't know much about turbos, but wouldn't an 88mm turbo running 10lbs make more power than a 67mm turbo running 10lbs therefore causing more stress on the motor.

I don't know much about them either but what I do know is that the size really only changes the max output and the speed/efficiency. Say you have a 76mm on a stock LS1, it may start building boost around 3500-4000rpms and max out probably not untill around 7500-8000 rpm's. Now say you have an 88mm turbo on the same engine. It will start making boost later like around 5000rpms but pull probably well past 8000rpms. If both turbo's are wastegated at 10lbs, the only difference would be how fast they can reach that 10lbs boost mark.

I think this is right, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Just like comparing blowers and turbos same overall effect, just efficiency and how you spin each compressor.

Here is a stock ls1 on i think it was 10 psi meth on STS kit that we tuned awhile back. IT was also on 3 bar speed density.

I think I have some 70mm and some 88mm dynos on the site. PLus a few stock lsx with APS kits.

Was he running stock manifolds? So you guys could tune that shit for me? Do u think if I did H/C/I and just left the turbo not connected I could drive it to you and we could connect it and dyno tune that bitch?

I don;t remember what all mods he had, it was awhile back. I just remember it was a white T/A with an sts kit. But yeah just leave the boost pipe off the throttle body and drive it easy.
