Bad day racing

W ell, I got the Mustang out to the track. It was a great day for racing!

Bad day for me.

It started off when I backed the car out of the trailer. This is something I have done hundreds of times. This time I managed to get the cable that lifts to door on the trailer hooked on my front bumper. It ripped out one of the bolts on the bumper and really got stuck. I had to unhook the cable from the door and let the tension spring unwind.

After I got the car free, I drove to tech. When I go to start the car to pull forward, the battery was dead. I forgot that I left everything on when I jumped out to get the cable free. A jump start and I was on my back to charge the battery.

I get to the staging lanes and of course, there is an oil down. So I sit for about an hour. Then racing starts up and then another oil down. This one only takes a few minutes to clean.

Now I finally get to the burn box with my new motor. Burn out feels great! Pull forward and stage, RPS up, lights down. Car launches very strong, everything feels good. Car pulls strong all the way down the track. First pass on the new motor is a 10.75 at 125!! Picked up about half a second and 5 MPH without any tuning.
After the pass someone told me that my left front rim looked bent, and I should take a look. So I jack up the car and spin the wheel and sure enough, it is wobbling all over the place. So I pull the rim off the car to see if it is the rim or something with the breaks. Breaks looked good so I took a good look at the rim. This is what I found.

The rim is cracked about ¾ of the way around! No more racing this day!

wow, good thing it didn't come apart.
man that sucks
I see it a little differently Mark, Granted, things got off to a lousy start, but having just made it through a 125mph pass with that wheel, I think the racing Gods were looking out for you, driving the car back into the trailer was a bonus, I'm just glad it was caught in time.

I know it could have been a VERY bad day racing!
Good thing someone noticed this before hitting the track again.
sad to hear this happened on a good day to race.

I remember the saying that airplane pilots have (and relate this to your event):

ANY landing that you can walk away from is a GOOD landing.
I would have found it then.
I would have found it then.
True, but it would have been in a bad way. This way worked out very well, I am happy to say.
I hate it when that happens. On the plus side no crash and a new record pass!!
YIKES!!! on a brighter note your car hauled ass on an untuned setup! Was that on motor only or were you spraying as well??

Sorry bout the bad luck BigBlock. But at least the wheel didn't give on that pass. She's lives to fight another day.
Thats crazy! You're one lucky SOB!
wow good thing you caught that. you couldof looked like that vette.... glad you and your car are ok
That shit is crazy Mark! Have you found another set yet?
I think I found some old Centerlines. Do you have anything?
