You first remove the drive shaft and then the pinion nut pull the yoke off of the pinion shaft and the remove the seal with a seal puller and then install the new seal and then yoke, consult the service manual for the correct bearing pre-load and torque sequence. install drive shaft and then your Camero is ready for another day on the road.
so i put the seal in and tha damm thing started to leak again in the same damm spot right where the pinion shaft comes out. aroungthe ruber seal any ideas
That will happen if the preload on the pinion bearing was not set correctly. Also how was the surface in the housing that the seal goes into. There could be another issue that is causing it to leak. post up some pics of the old seal and the housing.
you have any play in it ( the bearing)? d.s. vibrations? did you make sure all the surfaces were clean, knick-free, in good condition? when you take it back apart, lemme know. i have some anaerobic sealer that always does the trick.
So i talked to the guy i bought the car from and found out who did the gears i am just going to take it to them and let them deal with it ... thanks for the info
